Christmas Celebrations at Kimball House Museum

The traditional sights, sounds and smells of a Victorian Christmas will fill Kimball House Museum in December.  A series of special events for children and adults will celebrate the season in the lavishly decorated Victorian house museum, located at 196 Capital Avenue, NE.

American Girl Christmas Party

On Sunday, December 6, a festive Christmas Party will be held at Kimball House Museum for American Girl dolls and their owners. Two sessions are scheduled, one at 1:00 p.m. and the second at 4:00 p.m.

The party will feature Christmas stories and music.  The girls will make an old-fashioned  Christmas decoration to take home, enjoy traditional caroling and meet a Victorian Santa.  Seasonal refreshments will be served.

The party is open to girls between the ages of 8 and 12.  Girls are invited to bring their favorite doll, which does not have to be an American Girl, to the party.

Tickets for the American Girl Christmas party are $15 for each girl with her doll.  There is no charge for a parent or adult accompanying each girl, who are welcome to stay and help with the craft activity or serving refreshments.

Space is limited at this event and reservations are required.

“A Child’s Christmas Past”

The annual “A Child’s Christmas Past” family open house is scheduled on Saturday, December 12 from 5 to 8 p.m.

This program appeals to all members of the family, from elementary school age students to grandparents.  Everyone will enjoy the Victorian period Christmas decorations which sparkle throughout the historic house. The sounds of carols and traditional Christmas music fill the period rooms and traditional foods of the season, including hot wassail, are served.

This program is especially appropriate for children, who can make their own Victorian-style ornaments to take home to place on the family tree.  A Victorian Santa will greet the children and read from the favorite, “Twas the Night Before Christmas.”

Local author and historian Kurt Thornton will be on hand to autograph copies of his newly-published postcard history of Battle Creek.

Admission to “A Child’s Christmas Past” is $5.00 for adults and $4.00 for children and members of the Historical Society.  A Family Pass for $10.00 is available for families with two or more children. No advance reservations are required for the open house.

Victorian Christmas Tea

The festive Kimball House Christmas Tea will be held on Sunday, December 13 at 2:00 p.m.

Seated among the garlands and glittering decorations, guests at the December program will be served a variety of teas as well as traditional Yuletide treats, including scones, small cakes and Christmas bonbons.

There will be a short program on Victorian Christmas celebrations in Battle Creek.  Each guest at the program will receive a bag of tea samples, a pamphlet on Victorian Christmas traditions and a ticket for a variety of door prizes.

Tickets for the tea are $15 for adults or $12 for members of the Historical Society. Seating is limited for this special program and advance reservations are required.
